Subscription & Billing

How do I upgrade or downgrade my plan?+
Head to Settings and tap 'Upgrade for more plans and scans' to see available plans. To downgrade, manage your subscription directly through your App Store (iPhone) or Play Store (Android) account settings.
How do I cancel my subscription?+
Subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google — we don't handle billing directly. On iPhone, go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions > Spoon & Plan. On Android, open the Play Store, tap your profile, then Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.
How do I restore a purchase on a new device?+
Sign in with the same account you used when you first subscribed, then go to Settings and tap 'Restore Purchases'. Your subscription will be reconnected automatically.
Can I get a refund?+
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google in line with their policies. For Apple, visit reportaproblem.apple.com. For Google, open the Play Store and go to Order History. We're not able to process refunds directly, but we're always happy to help sort things out — drop us a line at support@spoonandplan.com.

Account

How do I delete my account and data?+
Go to Settings and scroll to the bottom — you'll find 'Delete account' there. This permanently removes your account and all associated data within 30 days, in line with UK GDPR. This action cannot be undone.
How do I export my data?+
In Settings, tap 'Request my data'. We'll email a copy of everything we hold about you to your registered email address within 30 days.
Is my data safe?+
Yes. Your data is stored securely on Supabase servers with encryption at rest and in transit. We never sell your personal data to third parties. Your meal preferences are shared with AI providers only to generate your meal plans, and those providers do not store your data beyond each request. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.

Meal Plans

How does the AI generate meals?+
Each week, the AI looks at your household size, weekly budget, dietary preferences, cuisine tastes, and any ingredients you'd rather avoid — then builds a balanced, varied meal plan around them. It tries to keep costs realistic for your chosen supermarket and avoids repeating meals you've had recently.
Can I swap individual meals?+
Yes! Tap any meal in your plan to see the options, then tap the swap icon to regenerate just that meal. The rest of your plan stays exactly as it was.
Why am I seeing the same meals?+
The AI aims for variety, but your dietary filters and preferences naturally narrow the pool of suggestions. Try broadening your cuisine preferences in Settings, or use the swap button to regenerate individual meals you've seen too often.
How do allergies work?+
You can set allergens and dietary requirements during onboarding or in your profile. These are passed to the AI every time a meal plan is generated. That said, please read our safety note below — AI is not infallible and you should always check ingredient labels yourself.

Shopping List

How is the shopping list generated?+
Once your meal plan is confirmed, the app consolidates all the ingredients across every meal into a single shopping list, grouping similar items and combining quantities where possible. It's designed to make one shop cover the whole week.
Can I share the shopping list?+
Yes — open your shopping list and tap the share icon. You can send it via any messaging or notes app on your device.

Recipe Scanning

What can I scan?+
You can photograph printed recipe cards, cookbook pages, handwritten recipes, or any image of a recipe with a clear list of ingredients and method. The scanner works best with well-lit, in-focus images where the text is easy to read.
Why didn't my scan work?+
Common reasons include poor lighting, blurry images, or very stylised fonts. Try retaking the photo with better light and a steady hand. If the recipe is online, you can also paste the URL or type the name manually. If scans keep failing, drop us a line at support@spoonandplan.com and we'll look into it.

Safety

Is this medical advice?+
No. Spoon & Plan is a meal planning tool for convenience and inspiration — it is not medical, nutritional, or dietary advice. Nothing in the app should be treated as a substitute for guidance from a qualified healthcare or nutrition professional. If you have a medical condition, allergies, or specific health goals, please consult a doctor or registered dietitian before making significant changes to your diet.
How accurate are the allergy filters?+
The allergy filters instruct the AI to avoid ingredients matching your stated allergens, but AI systems can make mistakes. Cross-contamination, hidden ingredients, and regional ingredient names can all cause unexpected results. Always read food labels carefully and never rely solely on the app if you have a serious allergy or intolerance. When in doubt, leave it out.
